Hi Michelle,

It is a good to do a few basic things before you do an update via WiFi.
These are things Rob from Today in iOS recommends and maybe some of it is
overkill, but it definitely won't hurt. The one thing I usually don't do
either is to reset the network settings. If all you have is one password for
your WiFi it's not so bad, but if you do this you have to enter all your
network passwords again so maybe you have connected to a WiFi at a friends
house and it will automatically connect because it remembers the password.
If you reset network settings the passwords are gone. But the rest is good
advice:

1. Connect your phone to iTunes and do a sync and backup or do an
iCloud backup if you don't backup via iTunes.

If you don't back it up at all this is a good time to get in the habit
*smile*.

2. After you have finished the backup, go into Settings and turn off
Bluetooth if it's on.

3. From the home screen, bring up the app switcher with a double press
of the home key and remove all apps from the app switcher.

4. Go into Settings, General, Reset and double tap on "Reset Network
Settings". This will reboot your phone.

5. After your phone has rebooted, go into Settings, WiFi and sign into
your WiFi. Once you check that you have a good network connection go ahead
and do the update.

As I said, I don't do the Reset Network Settings, instead I do, however,
reboot my phone after I empty out the app switcher by turning it off and
back on again after 10 or so seconds.

My Mom recently upgraded her iPad and all sorts of stuff got messed up.
Nothing was serious, but she had not done any of the above and I must say
that I never had an issue with an update by following these steps.

Keep in mind that after the upload downloads and your phone reboots it sits
there for a good long time without any feedback whatsoever. This is actually
one reason why I prefer to still upgrade via iTunes especially for major
updates, at least I can check on the status of the update.

Regards,

Sieghard
