Hi Cathy, You cannot send text messages as they go through the cellular network. As others mentioned, some flights now offer WiFi during the flight and this would allow you to send emails, browse the internet, send iMessages and maybe even do Skype calls, but regular text messages do not go via WiFi or data but just like a phone call use the normal cellular network. Oh, and if you want to say Thanks to this, consider it done or send me a message directly, Raul may yell at you otherwise *smile*.
