I think the problem is how you are sharing the pictures.
the option to export unmodified images is not what you want, you need to share
to the Files app.

1. Connect the flash drive to your iPhone.
2. Open the Files app and confirm the USB drive is recognized.
3. Go to the Photos app, select the images you want.
4. Tap Share > Save to Files > choose the USB drive.
5. Tap Save to complete the transfer.

Subject: iPhone and Flash Drive

Hi there,
I am connecting a flash drive to my iPhone, because I want to make sure and
save some pictures to it, even though they are on iCloud.
I can’t tell if it is reading the flash drive, because when I select what I
want, I go to “share” and from there, I go to “Export unmodified media”, but
when I am taken to “Browse”, it doesn’t seem to find or recognize the flash
drive. I plugged in a different drive, and it’s the same thing.
Any idea of what could be going on, or what I need to do that I’m not doing?
Thanks very much.
Jim
