You can get a ball park with or without LIDAR. I just tested it on my wife's iPhone SE 2nd gen and you can get the distance between two walls, and as Sieghard said, remember that number. Then do the distance between the other two walls and multiply the numbers for the square footage. It is a royal PITA with VoiceOver.
