I assume by “cube” you mean a USB-C wall adapter. You can use any wall adapter
but if you want to take advantage of the iPhone’s ability to charge as fast as
it can, you should have at least an adapter which can output 30 Watts via it’s
USB-C port. There are also many excellent multi-port adapters out there, Anker,
UGreen, and many other brands make adapters with 2, 3 or 4 ports which are
still relatively compact and often have folding prongs so one can bring them
along when travelling and then there are the so-called desktop chargers which
are small boxes maybe the size of an Apple TV and they usually have at least 4
ports and typically include at least 1 port which can output 140 Watts, another
which can deliver 100 Watts and a third for 65 Watts, then usually 1 USB-A port
which delivers 20 or 30 Watts. These don’t plug directly into the wall but have
a 4, 5 or 6 foot cable which plugs into the wall and into the back of the
adapter, some even have displays which show exactly how much power connected
devices draw. Ports which deliver 65 Watts or more are usually suitable for
charging laptops and if you have a late model Mac laptop and want to charge it
as fast as possible, you will need that 140 Watt port.
The good thing with USB-C is that it does not matter if you plug a headset
which only needs 5 Watts to charge into a USB-C port which can deliver 140
Watts, it will safely deliver only what the connected device can use.
And don’t forget that charging speeds are always going up so if you are buying
a USB-C wall adapter, buy one which can deliver more than you may need now
because it will last you for a very long time. Maybe now you have an iPhone 16E
which tops out at drawing 20 Watts or 25 Watts, but if you buy an iPhone 18 or
19 in 2 or 3 years, maybe that phone by then can fast charge at 45 Watts so if
you have a wall adapter which delivers 65 Watts you are set, if you have one
which delivers only 20 or 30 Watts and you want to charge at the fastest
possible speed, you would have to buy a new adapter whenever the power goes
up. A few years ago iPhones topped out at 7.5 Watts, then 15 Watts and now an
iPhone 16 Pro can charge sustained drawing 27 Watts with up to 39 Watts peak as
long as you have an adapter which can deliver it.

Subject: Re: 16e charging questions

Did you buy the cube as well! Because when I went to upgrade from an SE2020
(2nd Generation) to this iPhone 16E (2 weeks ago today), I made sure and got
myself the cube, and with this, the phone flies when it charges! So if you've
an Apple Store nearby, (or maybe Best Buy has them), get yourself the cube that
goes along with the cord the iPhone came with.
And like you, I wonder about charging the iPhone 16E with, for example, with
the NLS humanware's Reader's charger, or would it be better to stick with
Apple's?

Hi,
I just bought a new iPhone 16e. this is my first phone with the USB-C charging
so I need to upgrade my collection of charging cords for various places I keep
them handy. Two questions:

First, I have the cord that came with the phone and I also bought a USB-C to
USB-A cord at the Apple store for places in my house that have the USB-A slot
in the wall outlet. My observation using the cord is that charging is slower
than I thought. When people talk about fast charging, is this an upgraded cord
I need to buy rather than the default cord from Apple?

Second, and independent of the above answer, can I charge the phone with any
USB-C cord I have or do I need to be careful about what I grab? We have a
number of them around the house for my husband’s android, other small devices
and also for a few laptops. I’m thinking I shouldn’t use the one for the
laptop assuming that gives more power, but that is a wild guess.

TIA,
Robin
