Think they set it all up beforehand.
Can't remember when the notification comes in how to get tothem quickly.
There is a command for opening notifications.
Still nott sorting out my origia=nal query though.
I will try next time to place my finger almost at the top of the screen
as diercted by a sighted friend, swipe down and hopefully that should
sort it.
Note: the message on the home screen remains only for literally seconds.

I have a banner set up in notifications that when a message comes through and I
am on a call, I take the phone away from my ear which then places the call on
speakerphone with VoiceOver and I can quickly locate that notification and read
whatever is needed.

just wondering when say a phone/cell company sends you a message when you are
on a call for verification is there a way of reading that message quickly on

I believe that this is possible butrt how to accept such messages using VO?
What I do insrte=ead is to have the messages app open but that is
time-consunimg when the person atg the other end of the phone is awaiting
response.
