If you go to settings, accessibility, accessibility shortcut, and make sure
voice over is the only item selected, you won't have to choose which
accessibility option you want turned on when you triple tap the side button.

That's interesting Carolyn. A triple tap of my side button on 16 Pro will turn
it on and if I triple tap again it will turn it off. You do have to do your
three presses quickly.

Right, tripple tap, then you have to go to Voiceover on the screen and double
tap, or it won't turn off. Then to turn it back on, you have to double tap the
bottom of the screen, which you can't hear Voiceover, then it comes back on. We
tried it at the store. Better idea, like you say, is Siri, just hadn't thought
of it, don't use Siri for a lot of commands.

Why is it a pain?
Either tell Siri, turn VoiceOver off or on, whichever.
Or, triple tap the side button, just like you did on the home button.
Unless someone changed the default action. If triple tapping the side button
isn't toggling VO on or off, checkk Settings, Accessibility, and at the bottom
is the setting for what the Accessibility Shortcut does; the shortcut is the
triple tap of the side button.

It is a pain in the anatomy now about turning Voiceover off and on. Kind of
like my son says, when something works well, why change it?

I do like my new 16E iphone but as I have always had a home button in the past,
I am still having to practice my gestures.
There is a lot to explore, like the new Voiceover options and experimenting
with Siri's new capabilities.
What is Reachability by the way?

I got my 16E yesterday and everything is working fine. You do need to voice
train Siri so if you missed this step, perhaps that is where your problem lies.

Until this new phone, I have always had a home button so my current difficulty
is learning the gesture to reach the home screen and the app switcher.

I am also going to go through th Voiceover tutorial in Settings as it seems to
be that Voiceover has some new features which sound very exciting.

this must be an issue with your phone configuration. I got a 16E last week and
after transferring everything from my SE 2nd gen it looks and works just like
the SE. I have no problems like you are experiencing at all. I do miss the
home button but am already getting very used to the gestures instead. It sure
works much snappier than the SE did.

Good luck.

Allison, I just got mine, and I had to call Apple Accessibility in
order to get Hay Siri, or in my Case, just Siri, back on. I'm still trying to
work with getting Apple Intelligence on. The lady at Verizon is going to help
me tomorrow. Even my sighted son can't get Hay Siri on. He likes to be driving
and say, Siri, call Joe Blow or whoever. The lady at the store is going to help
us tomorrow.

I had no idea that 16, while still using 18.3, is so different than 14
was. He and I both had 14's; mine was a 14 Pro.

So, to answer your question, I'd call Apple Accessibility at
877-204-3930. I had to call twice, because the first time, the connection was
of such poor quality, that I simply could not understand the guy, and he did
not screen share, kept trying to tell me what to do. The second time, I could
understand the guy, and we did screen share. The problem for me was that in
getting to Talk to Siri, Voiceover did not work through the prompts after
saying say, Siri, what's the weather; it did not say for the second one, say
Siri, send a message, but the Apple guy told me each time. Now that is in my
phone. I was just surprised to find this many glitches.

I have just come home with my new iphone and have a couple of questions.

Firstly, is there a way of making the pop sound a little louder as you
swipe up the screen.

Secondly, I can’t remember how to extend the time before the Iphone
goes to sleep – where do I find this in settings please?
