If you go a few days without touching your phone, it will automatically
restart. This is a security feature that was introduced in iOS 18 so that if a
bad actor gets a hold of your phone, they can't unlock it with your face or
fingerprint. The most common reason that I've heard for why this feature exists
is that especially in the US, if law enforcement suspects you to have some kind
of involvement in something criminal, even if you've done no such thing, they
will often try to argue that using Face ID or your fingerprint to unlock your
phone is not incriminating, and some courts have agreed with this. So the
automatic restart is designed to disable that, so they need to know your
passcode in order to get into your phone. And you are not required to give them
your passcode.

Subject: iPhone restarting issue

Hello,
Has anyone else had their iPhone restart multiple times over multiple weeks
using iOS 18? I have a long story, but the short version is that even though I
have gotten other phones, this issue is still happening. What does everyone
think it might be?

Sincerely,
Jazz
