Just out of curiosity, I actually did call Apple, and they said they only 
offered the one tier of AppleCare now. I asked again just to be sure, asking if 
they no longer offered the coverage without theft and loss, and the sales 
person started explaining all of the advantages of the AppleCare now And 
confirmed again that they just offered the one type. Thus, I'm guessing you're 
right about that's why it cost more, that in addition to the more features on 
the phone. But what a high jump in price for apples budget phone.
