This comes from Mark Gurman’s power on newsletter.
Q: How do you think the new iPhone SE will be received?
A: It’s been a few years since Apple last rolled out an iPhone SE, its
budget-minded model. With the previous versions, Apple followed the same
basic
strategy: They were cheaper than a flagship iPhone, but not so cheap that
they could truly compete with the low end of the market. And the SE has
always
had an outdated design and low-tier specifications. In other words, it’s not
entirely clear what Apple was trying to accomplish with the SE line since
launching it in 2016. When the
new SE debuts in the spring,
things could be a bit different. The company is actually going to try to
make the device compelling, with more modern touches like an edge-to-edge
screen
and Apple Intelligence. It still won’t be cheap enough to compete with
bargain-basement Android devices, but will be a few hundred dollars less
than an
iPhone 16. I think it will do well.
