Hi. This is not so. If you turn on voice over help with a four finger double tap, then perform the three finger double tap it clearly states that a three finger double tap toggles the muting of speech, and a three finger triple tap toggles the screen curtain. The only exception is if you have zoom on as well, this does effect the gestures but I don't use zoom so can't speak to how.
