Hi all,

I'm also trying to decide whether to upgrade my 13 mini to a 16 or 16 pro when the Walmart Black Friday deals come around again. I really don't expect to use LiDAR much at all, so I could very well go with the iPhone 16. However, when I purchased the 15 pro for my other phone line last year, since all of the new AI features require at least a 15 pro, I'm glad I made that decision. Thus, just to make sure I have everything, just in case, and so I have no regrets later, I may very well go for the pro phone this time as well.

As for an iPhone case, I know cases are subjective and what works for me may not necessarily work for someone else. But in my case, I wanted a case with a built-in screen protector, and when I saw one that had a glass built-in screen protector, I purchased it and have been getting that same model for the last two or three years. Here is the link for that case for the 16 pro from the USA Amazon site:

Hi everyone, I really appreciate the discussion on whether to go to a pro model. I am upgrading from my 13 Pro to the 16 Pro, and I'm glad to know that the sound is better on the 16 pro.  Right now, I have my 13 in an Otter Box case, but it looks like I will need to get a new case for the 16 Pro. I don't want the phone to be too bulky when I'm carrying it around, but I want it to be protected from my dropping it accidentally and so forth.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have not handled the standard 16 model, but I will say the 16 pro has great sound, physically, it is almost the same size as my 13 pro. Maybe a very, very, tiny bit taller, but it pretty much fits in the case for the 13 pro. But not completely snug.
But, it has smaller bezels so there is actually more screen available, which I wouldn't know but my wife noticed that.
I have the wired airpods that I bought for the iPad Mini 6 that have theUSBC connection and they sound better than the lightning ones for the 13 pro.
I think the phone speakers are also better. It has a richer sound to me.
I just did a side-by-side comparison and to my ears, the 16 pro is slightly richer in tone.
The cases are similar, though not identical, so I took them out of the cases and did a second comparison.
The 16 pro is definitely a little richer to my ears; but as we all know, hearing is very subjective. I was comparing the first track on the album Appalachia Waltz, with Yo-Yo Ma, Mark O'Connor, and Edgar Myer.
I don't fully evaluate battery life until after a week to make sure the system has settled down, but it seems most definitely better than the 13 pro. The 16 models had a bug/security patch update today, which is not unusual.

Going from the 10R to either 16 model is going to be a very noticeable upgrade. It is clearly faster and all that than my 13 pro; so it should be really obvious going from the 10R.
Good luck,

Subject: Re: Pro or not pro?

I have a 14 Pro which I bought to replace my iPhone 7 and I have never regretted it. The battery life is great and the phone is a nice size for me, but honestly the thing that I really like the most about it is that it makes a sound when it's booting up.! That might sound silly but it has really helped me out a lot many times over the past year. Bottom line is the pro is worth the extra money to me but I know that's not true for everyone.

No devices perfect, and this one has its little issues from time to time, but it’s been an absolutely great phone, perfect size etc. After six years, I’m still using the original battery which is down down into the 80% tiles somewhere. It’s time to upgrade, although I’m not turning this in, because I won’t get anything for it. And I can still use it for things like playing books are barred books etc. So now the question becomes: pro or not pro? I’m totally not interested in massive screens, which means the promax and the plus are not for me. I expect I will go to a phone store and check out the 16 and the 16 pro, but it’s really all about whether it’s worth it to get the extra battery power The somewhat better chip performance although will that really help me as a blind person? And the better battery. I’m more interested in the contrast between the 16 and the 16 Pro. $200 a better chip and a better battery. But how much better? Anyway, for anybody who has already purchased one of the new devices, what do you think? I will never be sold on a promax, because it’s just too big. I have an iPad mini, and I don’t need another one. Smile.
