Hi,

Since I asked a few weeks ago if anybody who bought the Apple Watch Ultra last
year regretted it because of the size, I thought I would post my thoughts on
this. I decided to go ahead and order an Apple Watch Ultra 2 and I chose the
Trail Loop as the band since it seemed closest in design to the Milanese Loop
which I had on my first Apple Watch in 2016, a series 2, and also on my Apple
Watch series 5 which I bought in 2019.

I figured I could always return it and exchange it for something like the
Marine Loop since I am going to the Philipppines with my wife in February/March
and plan to use the Ultra 2 for scuba diving so I'll have to get one of these
Marine Loop bands anyways. I thought if I don't like the Trail Loop for daily
use I would simply buy a third-party Milanese Loop on Amazon, Apple doesn't
offer it when you order an Apple Watch Ultra 2, but it is my understanding that
any band of the other watches will also work on the Ultra. But after a few days
I think I'l stick with the Trail Loop, it's just as easy to use as the Milanese
Loop and infinitely adjustable due to the velcro tabs on it and it's even more
secure as my Milanese Loop which uses a magnet to stay where you put it can get
loose if your watch gets caught on something.

I must say, however, that I definitely don't regret the upgrade, I find the
larger screen of the Ultra is much easier to work with especially with respect
to turning the rotor and gestures like the scrub for going back a screen and
everything is just so snappy and fast. I did have a chance to briefly put
somebody's Apple Watch Ultra from last year on my wrist as I was a bit
concerned with the size, but I must say it's not an issue at all and the watch
is amazingly light given it's size. I have the Milanese Loop stainless steel
band on my Apple Watch 5 and the Trail Loop on the Ultra 2 and just holding
them in my hand I can't even tell the difference although the Ultra 2 itself
says it is 61 grams and we had the 40mm Aluminum Apple Watch 5 which when I
looked it up says it is half the weight; maybe the stainless steel band really
make the difference.

Another thing I really like about the Ultra 2 is the amazing battery life. The
first time I charged it and took it off the charger around 8 or 9 in the
morning and I then didn't put it back when I was notified at 10 PM 2 days later
that I should charge it before going to bed, that is just over 60 hours.

Just now it's 1:30 PM on Monday and I had it fully charged last night and put
it back on around 10 PM so about 16 hours ago and I am now at 72%.

Apple says 36 hours with regular use and 72 hours in battery saver mode, but it
seems at least with my usage which is checking time, notifications and taking
the odd call on it, it seems to go well past 36 hours. Maybe if I used the
workout app or more GPS features it would be closer to what Apple says, haven't
had it long enough yet to do all that.
For now I still use the Infograph watch face as it can have up to 8
complications, but I also like some of the extra options you get with the Ultra
like elevation. I haven't tried things like the GPS "backtrack" feature to see
how accessible that is.
To my surprise I found that Eloquence Reed is quite nice for the Apple Watch,
of course very responsive and I can comnfortably use it at 70% speed. On my
iPhone I prefer US English Siri Voice 4, but for some reason I find it doesn't
sound as good on the Apple Watch Ultra and if I don't use Reed I prefer US
English Siri Voice 1 which is the original male Siri voice and which sounds
very clear and nice.
All in all I really like the Ultra 2 and while it comes with a premium price, I
think it will be hard to ever go back to a regular Apple Watch, but in any
case, I had my series 5 for 4 years and I predict I'll have the Ultra 2 for at
least this long or maybe longer unless of course Apple releases some amazing
new watch in 3 years.
