There is an option to go back to a 4-digit passcode, you just have to explore the entire screen as it's not called "Use 4-digit passcode" or something easy like that. There is also a button to use a more secure alpha-numeric password meaning something using letters and numbers and more like a password than a PIN, but just make sure you check all the buttons/options and you'll find it.
