This is a terrible decision, and it doesn't sound like the subscription will come with actual improvements. In general this kind of a subscription model for static products is repugnat, but especially so when it comes to something as basic as reading books. Imagine if Ambutech suddenly announced it was making use of their canes contingent on monthly payments; it would be outrageous.
