Good Morning Mary,

Did any of the suggestions take care of the problem? Sure hope so, I forget
which one fixed my SE2020 iPhone, but I had the same problem and I believe
removing the, Programs, entry from settings /
Accessibility/VoiceOver/Activities is the one that did the trick.

Stay safe and take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Thanks, Mike. Disregard the message I just sent on the same topic. I thought
I had sent something yesterday about this, and then for some stupid reason,
going through my email this morning, I missed your reply the first time, so
thinking maybe I hadn’t sent it, I sent another message on the same topic. I’m
sorry for that.
Mary

  Hi Mary,

Try the following suggestions from a query of the same nature with iOS14.

  Hi All!

I know a lot of us have had the really really annoying issue with VO
14.3-14.4 reading all and often way more punctuation than wanted. If you
have had
this problem, I found a solution on the VO bugs reporting list. at least
two people there tried it with success and I have had the same results!

  1. In settings go to Accessibility/VoiceOver/Activities.

  2. Do a 1-finger swipe down on programs until you hear delete and delete
this.

If like me after doing the above two steps, you end up getting VO reading
no punctuation at this point unless you read by character , there is a
really
simple solution. I had this problem and the following resolved it.

  1. In settings go to Accessibility/VoiceOver/rotor.

  2. Make sure punctuation is selected.

This should resolve the problem, as long as your default is set to some.
If it is not set to some, do the following:

  1. In settings go to Accessibility/VoiceOver/Verbosity/Punctuation/Active
Punctuation Group.

  2. Make sure it is set to some or change the selection if that is not
selected.

  Hi,
This sounds like the Voiceover "activity" bug. Try:
  1. Go to Settings/Accessibility/Voiceover/Activities
  2. Double tap on the "Programming" activity
  3. Double tap on the "verbosity" setting
  4. Set "punctuation" to none
I am assuming you are running IOS 14.x. This should fix your problem. This
is a known bug but it would help if you report it to Apple. The more folk
who
do, the higher the priority to fix it will rise.

Hi, regarding the reading punctuation marks, on Voice Over go to the
"activity" and "set program" and delete this. I have made this changed this,
and it
  solved.

Have you changed your voice on the device?

If so try changing it back to the default voice and see what happens.

No. Not happening. I’ve been using Alex forever. It works fine on my
iPhone XR. So there has to be something going on. I just set my punctuation
to none, and the stupid voiceover keeps giving me all sorts of commas and
all kinds of crap. Changing voices is not the answer, since it works great
on this phone. So, what the heck am I doing wrong?

Hi Mary, try to use an other voice.
It's read this ponctuation mark wen we use in English US voices.
Try to use an british or other English accent.
    It helped me.

I finally upgraded my 7+ to iOS 15. Five. And it is reading all sorts
of unwanted punctuation, like,,.,: Etc. I have had my punctuation set to
some which has worked great for as long as I can remember. I just went in
and switch my punctuation to nun on this phone, and it is still reading all
this garbage, colons and colons and commas etc. What am I doing wrong? This
is unacceptable.
