Hi Fanus, I have two thoughts. First, especially if you are with the person, You could go to settings, accessibility, voiceover and go to the voiceover practice. Then the person could just practice to see if they can perfect the gesture.
If that doesn't work, the gesture could be changed to something easier by going to settings, accessibility, voiceover, commands, touch gestures. Once on that screen look for the "screen curtain" and single-finger double tap. Then you will get a list of all the voiceover gestures and you can choose the one that will work for the screen curtain. Probably the best one to use will be the back tap. On the screen with all of the gestures, the back tap area is pretty far down the screen. I hope that helps! Take care and stay safe!
