People you trust and email still can see your email, but you can choose to hide your email when you for example sign up for some newsletter or anything like this. For this you can create an alias email address which you then use and any email which is sent to that address you still get as you would all your regular email, but if at some point there comes a time when you get too much junkmail to that address you can just delete the address and it won't affect your regular main email.
