He should check his setttings, messages, to see if Raise to Listen is on. That means when you get an audio message, you raise the phone and it should start playing. Though he should be able to tap on the attached audio message to play it I think.

The text version will show up on the screen, but the audio is not playing. He is using a 2020SE. Is there a setting he needs to check for the audio to work?
