Enabling send as sms fixed the problem. I wonder why Apple doesn’t have this turned on by default. I’m sure glad it is now working right. Many thanks for the directions. Enabling send as sms will allow messages to be sent when imesssage is unavailable. To enable this settings, messages. Next swipe until you find send as sms and then double tap to turn on this setting.
