I just got off the phone with Apple tech support and I found out why the mute button wasn’t working like I expected. In my defense, I have only had an iPhone for one week now so I am still learning. What I just learned is that the phone has to be lock for the mute ringer switch to function. Otherwise, Ciri will go ahead and do her thing. I just tested it, and as long as the screen is locked, the mute switch works as expected. Hmmmm, wondering what other thing I will learn next??? The first two items have to do when the phone vibrates. In the phone settings, there is an announce calls setting. IN the Siri settings, you can select control with ring switch.
