If all you want to do is to turn your phone off, just press the power
button and hold it until the "Power off" button appears, Voiceover will
announce it, then just double tap and that's it.
First pressing Volume Up, then Volume down and then pressing and holding
the power button is forcing a hard reset, really only necessary if your
phone has locked up or is not eresponding in any other way.

side button for a couple of seconds. Then you will want to double tap on
