Deidre, To change what can be accessed when your iPhone is locked, go to Settings, Touch ID and Passcode, place the rotor on headings and swipe to the Allow access when locked heading where you'll find things like the Notification center, Control center, Siri and others which you'll want to turn on for access when your iPhone is locked.
