Same here, you get a table with whatever number of columns and 1 row and that 1
row are the column headers. I also can see no data here. But then again there
are many other places where Jaws can read the data and in some way obsessing
about it won’t help anyways especially since most countries probably have many,
many more cases than what is officially confirmed due to the shortage of tests
itself and the lack or inability to test everybody.
The main thing is that people have to get their head wrapped around the fact
that the only way to slow this down is to stay away from each other and wash
your hands 50 or 100 times a day if you end up having to work and touch things
and don’t touch your face unless you have thoroughly washed your hands first.
Even worse is going out if you have symptoms like coughing or fever, if that is
the case make arrangements with family, friends or delivery services to have
your groceries and such delivered and stay home until you are healthy again 2
or 3 weeks later or, call your health authorities of course if your symptoms
get to the point where you may need to be in the hospital. If you get sick and
it’s only a cold it will be gone in a week or 10 days, if it’s not then chances
are you may have the COVID-19 virus and that can take a week or even several
weeks longer for your body to overcome. Even with very minor symptoms you can
give this to many more people if you decide to ignore these rules.
Another important thing is not to believe anything you read about a cure or a
vaccine as such products do not yet exist and if anybody says we have to get on
with life because otherwise our economy will totally collapse also don’t
believe it because if the spread of this is not slowed and even 10% of the
population get this let alone 20% or 30% then things will truly collapse. The
USA has a population of 300 Million, 10% of that is 30 Million and if the
current rate of death which is about 1.5% continues, that means 450,000 people
will die and more likely it will be much higher because Millions of people who
need intensive care will compete with a much, much smaller number of available
ICU beds.
In Germany which has a bit over 40,000 cases and is in fifth place as of the
time I am writing this only 222 people have died, a rate of around 0.55% or 55
people in 10,000.
Italy is in second place with almost 75,000 cases and very close to overtaking
China now with just under 82,000 cases. Italy, however, has more than double
the dead with over 7,500. This is a huge difference as this is a rate of 10%,
based on 10,000 people where Germany has 55 death they would have 1,000 death.
The good news is that while they will over take China in the next days, the
rate of new cases is starting to slow.
The US is in third place and with over 69,000 cases is not all that far behind
Italy, of course based on population it is less, but death in the US which are
now just under 1,050 means it’s a percentage of just over 1.5%.
In Spain, which is in fifth place in the world, confirmed infections are now
over 56,000 with over 4,000 dead, also a rate of about 7.3%, less than Italy
but still between 13 and 14 times more than Germany.
The fact is that each Nations Doctors and scientists who specialize in viruses,
how epidemics spread and who have made it their life’s work to study past
outbreaks and to come up with ways how to prevent new ones are the ones the
politicians need to listen to. I am very deliberately making an effort not to
point at individual leaders who have not done this, but unless our leaders
listen and the population does what they are told this will continue for a long
time to come. Those countries which do take the science-based approach and
where the population does everything they can will be the first to get this
under control.
