Along with insuring that Do Not Disturb is off, and making sure the mute switch is not on, in the sound settings, find the sound volume and make sure it is loud enough and that the button just after the volume is set to Not Change with buttons. If none of that works, try powering off and back on. If that still isn't working, call Apple Accessibility, 877-204-3930 They are open 24/7.
