By all means, Marie, if you are paying for a plan which includes annual upgrades I would get a new phone every year, too. My wife and I only upgraded our 6S phones last year because our carrier was offering a very good deal for Black Friday, a $150 downpayment and $15 for 2 years as an additional payment on our monthly plan and that is in Canadian Dollars. This comes to a total of $510 Canadian which is a bit less than $400 US. Over the two years and including the $35 we each paid a few month earlier to get Apple to put in new batteries through their discounted battery replacement program they were offering, we would pay about $1,100 Canadian for two iPhone 8. I sold my 6S Plus for $400 and my wife sold her iPhone 6S for $250, so in total $650 which means effectively our two new phones cost us $450 Canadian or about $225 each. We are both on what for Canada is a fairly inexpensive plan from one of the MVNO’s paying $49 each a month for 6G b of data and unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting with basic voice mail. I suspect we’ll have ur iPhone 8 for at least 3 or maybe 4 years and I think that is probably about right because by the time we are ready to upgrade again in 2021 or 2022 5G is probably well on its way to be rolled out, the iPhones then will support it and maybe the Face Id and under-display Touch Id issue has also been settled and we’ll buy new devices which again will serve us for at least 3 or 4 years. Given the high cost of these premium phones nowadays for me annual or even bi-annual upgrades just don’t make financial sense, I don’t go out and buy a new laptop every year or 2, either, and as I said before, the hardware by now is so advanced and mature that it should serve for 3 to 5 years. I think it was different in the years from 2009 to 2013 when much larger leaps in technology were achieved, at first in 2009 the first accessible iPhone, the 3GS with Voiceover, then in 2011 the 4S with SIRI, then in 2013 the 5S with 64-bit support and Touch Id etc. These were all upgrades which were pretty major.
Regards, Sieghard From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Marie Sent: Sunday, September 15, 2019 6:42 PM To: viphone <[email protected]> Subject: Opinions of the new Iphone As usual there are multiple differing opinions of every new Iphone. First I would like to say that if you are happy with the phone you have and it still is capable of getting updates, etc. By all means, keep it. But if you want a newer faster phone with some new features then why not upgrade? I am considering getting a new 11 pro but am still undecided because I currently have and IPhone X. I waited and bought it used but it was only 8 months old, I got a good price and it was and still is in excellent condition. But there are some attractive reason for me to take a look at the 11 Pro. I know most say the camera does not affect us as blind users but I am not thoroughly convinced of that. Could it have an impact on usage with apps like Aira and be my Eyes? Also the little app called clew which, I believe uses the camera to record your steps to a location. Also, would the improved stability help us take a decent picture if totally blind. It should be the reason for the better face ID (which I have come to like a great deal on my X and like the idea of it being improved.) I am asking these question because I can’t know if any are valid but worth thinking about. If you are a heavy user of your phone and not always in a convenient place for charging, the additional battery life is very attractive. The faster processing importance will vary from user to user but for some it is a definite plus. As stated, there are many opinions but I just wanted to express some of mine.
