For those who do not want to pay $39.99 for Blind Square, take a look at the 
free Lazarillo app.
It does not have the depth of features that Blind Square has; but it is a good 
orientation app.
If you want a walking route, you can get that from within Lazarillo.
If you want a driving route, it can launch Google or Apple Maps I believe and 
run in the background to tell you about streets or Points Of Interest.
I turn off explore mode when first launching or it continues to talk about 
places around you which interrupts hearing what you want in learning the app.
