If you want notifications like reminders automaticly read when they happen
ou might look in settings|general|accessability|voiceover| announce
notifications or something lik that it'll automaticly read notifications
whenthey come in. I'm not sure which is automatic anymore when voiceover
is on.

When you hear the alert that there is a notification, just swipe right
until you hear voice over tell you what it is.
Also, you can ask Siri if you have any reminders and she will give you a
list of what you have.
Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.
