My phone is connected for Wi-Fi calling, but I have a time with messaging to this person, and right now, the majority of my texting is back and forth with her for business purposes and church too.

I'm just guessing here, but if you have a cellular connection but aren't using cellular data then your iMessages won't go through. You can try to find a wifi or turn on cellular data to see if this works. You could also use SMS instead of an iMessage.
