I have it set so that the reminder makes a sound. I don't want it to
read out loud automatically, but I don't get the "cord" sound and I
don't get a message displayed ... anywhere--neither on the iPhone or
on my Apple watch.

As for me, I would never want VoiceOver to automatically read the
text of a reminder. Instead, I have my reminders set to display a
persistent banner across the screen which, forces me to interact with it.
Explore the Reminders notification settings and see what happens.

I can't for the life of me get reminders to remind. My friend can
tell Siri "create a reminder in 3 minutes to walk the dog", and in
three minutes the dinger dings and the phone says to walk the
dog. With me, nada.
I have tried with Siri, without Siri. I have examined the settings
for reminders and notifications and everything looks right. Is
there a hidden command I need to find somewhere and check or uncheck?
