Dear Harry & List:

It is clues such as it works with onscreen keyboard but not from the Orbit
which help software authors/revisers, track down the source of the error.

Friend of mine would phone me occasionally to say the paper feeder on her
Diablo 630 HPRO5 printer died. I would ask what death sounds it made. She would
describe them. I would say sounds like motor turning, however, gears not
meshing. She would phone distributor who ran the repair depot including my
comment. Repairperson said her descriptions were usually spot on! He knew which
parts too bring.

One day she said printer was blowing circuit cards rapidly. She listed the
cards, I said about all I thought they had in common was power. She mentioned
my comment to the repairperson who pulled out his voltmeter, which registered
24 bolts coning from a 12-volt supply! He said I was correct, her regulator
chip had died. The bugler blew Taps for the chip, which died in action,
replaced it with new regulator, and was the last she saw of her repairperson in
months.

Machinery often gives audible & other clues as to what is wrong with it. We
have to recognize the symptoms & advise the fixer of them.

If a sheet feeder makes sounds like paper jammed in gears, it probably is
jammed paper causing it to missfeed.

Thanks, Brian!
You are right: when the Orbit refuses to recognise the command for capitals or
numbers, I can reach over to use the on-screen keyboard on my iPhone XS, which
does suggest it is an Orbit firmware bug.
I will get Orbit onto it!
Regards
Harry
