I have it turned off on my SE and don't think I'd turn it on on any iPhone I'd be getting in the future.
As I understand it, if you have facial recognition, all you have to do is lift your phone while looking at it, and the Home Screen will come on. When I first got my phone, Raise to Wake was active, and turning it off helped a lot with battery life.
