It is also not that difficult to make your own ringtones, all you need is whatever music you want to use and iTunes or you can use one of many apps which exist for this purpose, however, in the end you still always will need iTunes for transferring the ringtone to your phone. I posted instructions for this a number of times, they were based on an earlier iTunes version, but I’d be surprised if things had changed that much. If you search the archives for “Creating ringtones from songs” you should find the information.
