Correct, but the question is whether the Sonos speaker they have is Airplay 2
compatible and while Terry thought that the model of Sonos speaker they have
makes no difference then that is not true since only The newer Sonos speakers
support Airplay 2. If I remember correctly the models are the Sonos One which
is the model with built-in Alexa support, the Play 5 second Generation and the
new Beam SoundBar. The upcoming Sonos Amp will also have Airplay 2 support and
I think so does the Playbase which is the speaker you put underneath your TV,
but unlike a SoundBar it is a flat box which can be used as a stand for your TV.
Now, having said all that, I am not so sure whether using Airplay to stream the
audio from the BARD app would save battery or use more. The thing is that you
are still using the BARD app, but you also use Airplay 2. The only advantage
would be that I guess you could have your iPhone plugged in somewhere and
stream to one or multiple Sonos speakers so for example, if you have the
iPhone in the bedroom and it is plugged in and you have an Airplay 2 compatible
Sonos speaker in the kitchen then you can certainly stream to it and listen
there.
Maybe a bunch of people who like BARD and use it a lot and who have also Sonos
speakers should suggest that Sonos adds native support for BARD books, then you
could totally bypass the iPhone except that you would initially use it as your
remote to start playing your book in Sonos. Basically this would be how it
currently is with Audible and AudioBooks.com both of which are supported by
Sonos.

Sieghard

Subject: Re: Question for a friend, regarding the Sonos speaker and bard

If it even is possible, this would drain the battery even faster, as the
connection between the phone and the Sonos speaker is wireless, which means a
radio in the phone is now transmitting, thus drawing even more power.

Tell your friend to go to the iOS Control Center (three-finger swipe up) and
check the list of available playback modes. If the Sonos speaker is Airplay
-capable, all they have to do is select that device, and then everything on the
phone except VoiceOver will come through the Sonos Speaker.

 Hello everyone,

As my subject says, I am asking this question for a friend of mine.
They have a Sonos speaker. I don’t know exactly which one. But I figured that
won’t make a difference.

Anyway, they have the Bard app on their iPhone. We were wondering, is it
possible to somehow stream barred through the Sonos speaker?
My friend would preferred to do this if possible, because bar tends to be such
a battery hog.
 Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you!
Terri
