Hello Sieghard
Thanks for the info and as always, you are correct, I think the airpod way
would be the best. Unfortunately our exchange rate is so bad that airpods would
cost an arm and a leg. I am also so glad you put me on the Sonos road. My son
was in Germany a few weeks ago and he brought me a second play3. By going as a
visitor he could manage to bring the play3 as a gift, so I paid just a bit more
than half the SA price. Maybe I shall be able to do a similar thing once you
think a future generation airpod meets the requirements.
Regards and thanks for your good advice and objective opinions

Hi Fanus,

The Sennheiser Flex 5000 is not a speaker, it is a 2-part device, the
transmitter is plugged into whatever source you want to use and then the actual
unit which you can clip on your belt or put it in a pocket is a receiver with
a 3.5mm headphone jack. It’s a fully digital system with options to plug into a
3.5mm/RCA analogue output or into an optical digital output. While this is a
wireless system as far as from the source to the device, you still end up with
a wired headset so in that respect it isn’t that much different from using an
iPhone with a wired headset.

Other Sennheiser headphones are wireless, but again those are large rheadphones.

I have sort of come to the conclusion that the best option is probably
something like the Airpods. You can use one or both and they would be small
enough not to be a bother and if you fall asleep and they fall out then you
probably just end up sleeping on them which shouldn’t hurt them and
theoretically your playback should stop if they fall out of your ear.

Of course I have stated numerous times that I am not spending the high price
for Airpods until they are more advanced, i.e. they need to first offer similar
controls than the in-wire microphone/remote of the Earpods and definitely they
need to have volume control. Apple apparently recently announced that the
Airpods will get an upgrade at some point this year and that the new generation
2 Airpods will fully support Hey SIRI which means you won’t need tap
functionality to invoke SIRI. I will definitely wait and see, there is already
talk that the third generation Airpods will be officially water resistant
possibly to the point where you can swim with them although in that case Apple
of course needs to incorporate some sort of loop so you can attach a string or
cable. I was listening to a Podcast and they were going o and on about how
awesome this would be because you could take them wake boarding or surfing or
whatever and the first thing that popped into my head was how stupid that would
be since they’d probably fall out after the first big wave hits and you would
of course never find them again. Maybe in 20 years they all get washed up
somewhere because of ocean currents and just like there now is a garbage patch
in the Pacific which is larger than most countries maybe there will be an
Airpod patch.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hello Sieghard & list

I am also looking for a way to solve the same book reading problem and
interestingly enough I have the older micus BT transmitter/receiver and I get
similar drop-outs at a fairly short distance. So if you find a solution then
please inform us. Does the sennheiser wireless speaker then have a headphone
plug or how are you going to get the sound so soft as not to disturb your wife?

Regards

Hi All. Regrding the sleepPhones are they only good for sleeping, or
would they be ok to use in other situations, e.g. commuting etc?
Thanks in advance, Jesper.
