I typically use iBooks, but my use case is probably different than yours. I use braille only, and the Kindle app is a much better reading experience for me with braille. The main reason is that though you can have pages turn automatically when you reach the end of the text on that page, Kindle does it without interrupting my reading. When the page turns in iBooks, the page number flashes up, and my reading is interrupted. While I understand that, for academic purposes, this is helpful info, most of the time I'm just trying to read and don't care about what page I'm on. however, if you are using a book for an acodemic purpose, iBooks may be more helpful for this reason.
