Esther, Maybe having more than one device is the cause of your notification issue. Someone else will have to comment on that since I prefer to use just one iOS device to keep things simple.
I understand completely wanting to get your music straightened out before engaging in a lot of trial and error steps. Good luck with getting everything tweaked to your satisfaction.
