When the word “native” or “stock” is used in connection with an app it typically refers to one of the apps which are preinstalled on the iPhone and, which at this point can’t be deleted from the iPhone. These are apps like Mail, Clock, Calendar, Contacts, Wallet, Notes, Voice Memos etc. “Podcasts” is also one of these apps which means if you want a basic Podcasts app you can use it, some people like third-party apps like Downcast or Overcast which are probably the two most mentioned apps both on this list and also in Podcasts like the Today in iOS Podcast. I think Overcast is now free, Downcast I think is a couple of Dollars. I always used to like Downcast, but at one point started using Apple’s Podcasts app which is already on the iPhone as it does the trick for what I do. I have maybe 6 or 8 Podcasts I subscribe to and to which I listen to on a more or less regular bases. One thing I like with Podcast is the fact that it integrates with SIRI. This means I can say “Play the latest episode of the Today in iOS Podcast or while a Podcast is playing and there is a section which doesn’t interest me I can bring up SIRI and say “Skip 2 minutes and 30 seconds or even skip 7 minutes. Of course Podcast apps have buttons to skip by various time intervals, but by using SIRI I can make it any time interval I want from saying to rewind 8 seconds if I just missed something to whatever I want.

Is 'native Podcast' a name of the app? Thanks! From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Saturday, June 04, 2016 10:30 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: Latest iTunes Hi Gary, I just downloaded iTunes 12.4.1 on my Windows 10 laptop where I use Jaws 17 as my screenreader. One thing that is slightly improved is when you go to the Apps area in iTunes. Before once you tabbed into the app grid view you could not tab forward to where Jaws would read the What’s New section or to the Update All button. Instead you had to go to the Search field with Control+F and then use Shift+Tab to go backwards until you came to the update all button. Now in 12.4.1 Jaws again reads the What’s New and you can tab normally. However, Jaws still does not read the names of the apps in the grid view as you arrow around, you basically have to tab once past the grid view, then Jaws says what app it has focus on, you can then Shift+Tab, move the cursor right or left, then tab again to hear the name of that app and read the What’s New. I don’t usually use iTunes to download or listen to Podcasts since I find using a Podcast client like the native Podcast app or Downcast is such a good experience. However, I just opened the Podcasts area and I guess at some point I had added the Today in iOS Podcast and Cool blind Tech and I was able to focus on one of these, then tab until I got a listing of episodes and I was able to arrow up and down in that list and so on. Of course if you set it up so new episodes download to your computer you will have a “Podcasts” folder in your iTunes Media folder with subfolders for the various Podcasts and in each of them you will find all the episodes. I've been fiddling around with it in the hope of understanding how to do what I want to do and I'm setting up another podcatcher because I've had no success at all. I have tried both Window-Eyes and NVDA. ----- Original Message ----- From: Russ Kiehne<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, June 04, 2016 9:41 AM Subject: Re: Latest iTunes Did you know about the following? Apple Releases iTunes 12.4.1 with Bug Fixes for VoiceOver Users From: Gary Petraccaro<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Friday, June 03, 2016 10:36 AM To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Subject: Latest iTunes I've been downloading podcasts with iTunes since the last version of 11 and versions up to the latest update. As far as I can tell, Apple has made it impossible now to download podcasts without considerably more discomfort. I cannot find a way to collapse and expand particular podcasts for convenience of getting from show to show and now the dates of the shows are harder to find. Where I used to be able to get the latest several numbers of the Blind Bargains shows for a couple of weeks and dump them on a card for playing on a stream, they no longer show up show by show. If there's a way to rearrange this, I'll be happy to hear it. Good luck. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
