Hello Chip, et al, I am posting this to let you know that one can purchase a book from Audible and have complete access to that book from any Audible app/portal, and at anytime without paying any kind of fee. A fee is only required if one enrolls in a plan. If, however, one chooses to purchase a title without enrolling in any kind of plan, then she/he will have to pay the full price for the title, which, in my experience, can be more than the same title purchased directly from iTunes.

You do however have to pay for some sort of active plan which allows you to login to get to the books you’ve purchased (I think whatever they call this plan, it’s a maintenance plan for about $10 a year, and it allows you to keep getting to the books you’ve purchased, whether individually or through a subscription, and it allows you to continue to spend your credits if you’ve accumulated credits but not made purchases with them yet). This last was my situation, as we signed up for a subscription of a book a month, then failed to spend the credits because we were too busy (they will actually just delete these credits from your account if you don’t spend them within a given time frame, which I think is 9 months or a year). We switched to the maintenance plan, and then began spending our accumulated credits (which they will restore to your account if you insist, but do keep an eye on these if you sign up for a subscription).
