Hi Denise,

Sorry, Outlook 2016 on my Windows 10 laptop is having a problem so I just set
up the account I use for the list on one of my work computers so I can catch up
on the list and reply to some messages.

As Robin pointed out, you can use a simple 3.5mm male to male cable to connect
your iPhone to the Line-In jack on the Play 5.
If you want more freedom and spend a bit more you could buy an Airport Express
which is an Airplay capable device and I believe you can pick one up for around
$60. It has a 3.5mm headphone out jack and once again you can use the same male
to male headphone cable to connect it to the 3.5mm line in jack on the Play 5.
This way you could Airplay anything on your iPhone to the Airport Express and
it would come out via your Sonos. The nice thing is that if you ever get
another Sonos player you can also group it in with the Play 5 or even play the
Airport Express on your other Sonos player without playing it on the Play 5.

Also, whether you hook up the iPhone directly with a 3.5mm cable or whether you
use an Airport Express, you can configure the Line-In port to play
automatically. This way you don't actually have to select Line In as a source,
instead you can start playing, for example, your Audible book, then just keep
the cable connected to your Play 5 and whenever you want plug it into the
headphone jack of the iPhone and it will automatically start playing via your
Play 5 within about 2 seconds. Even if you were playing music from one of the
online services, as soon as you plugged in your phone the Play 5 will sense
that and automatically switch to the Line In source if you select to Auto Play.
You can even choose a certain volume level you want it to use when it starts.
This is done in Settings > Room Settings, but keep in mind that the "Line In"
button only shows up in the settings if a cable is plugged into the Line In
port of your Play 5. Here are the options you have after you tap on the Line In
button:

Top line: there is a back button at the top left, a heading called "Line In and
a "Done" button at the top right for when you have made all your selections.
If you swipe right from the "Done" button, you come to the "Line In source
name" button. If you double tap on this you can give the source you normally
connect a name, for example, you could call it "iPhone".
If you swipe right again you have a button called "Line In source level". Here
you have 10 choices for the amount of gain and some of them show examples, they
are:
Level 1: Low
Level 2: A/V Component - this would be something like a CD player or DVD player
Level 3: unspecified
Level 4: Airplay
Level 5: unspecified
Level 6: Mac Computer
Level 7: unspecified
Level 8: Portable player/PC
Level 9: unspecified
Level 10: High
Obviously, if you plug in the iPhone directly I'd try level 8 for portable
player/PC, I use it and it works well. On my other Connect where I have an
Airport Express hooked up, I use Level 4 (airplay).

The next button is your "Auto Play Room" option. If you only have one Play 5
that would be your only option, if you have multiple players you can select a
particular player where you want the Line In source to automatically play as
soon as you plug it in.

Next is an on/off button called "Included Grouped Rooms". If you turn this on
and if you have multiple players which are grouped, this means your line in
source will start to play on any players that are grouped, not only the one
player/room you selected in the auto play room or if you select manually.

Lastly, you have "Auto Play Volume". This is first of all an on/off switch. If
you turn it on you then have an adjustable control below where you can flick up
or down or double tap and hold and then drag left and right to adjust the
volume you want it to start playing at.

Hope this helps,
Sieghard

Hi,
No one has no bearing on the other. You merely choose line in source in the
app's music menu as indicated and away you go.

Hi,
Will I then need to disconnect from Wifi in order to use the speaker
connected to my phone?
