I have had a similar problem in restoring an iphone 5s. I get an error saying the restore failed. As a result I have not been able to restart the phone even with a home power reset. upon going to the ATT store and bringing home an iPhone six, the same sequence occurred. I got another phone the same day and did not update a or restore the fhone. its off to the apple store. Grin!
