The phones are usually sufficiently charged to get going at least to where it’s set up and where you can check the battery with Voiceover, but you can always just plug it in when it arrives which, of course, will also turn it on automatically and since there is a short double vibrate when the phone is plugged in, it’s not a bad idea. It has exactly the same buttons as all iPhones, e.g. volume up/down on the left side, a mute switch above the volume up button, the home button and the power button. Only difference is that the power button is no longer on the top right of the phone, but it is now on the top right side across from the volume buttons. SIM tray is still on the right side where it has always been and the headphone jack is at the bottom to the left of the Lightning port, if you are coming from a 4S this will be different since the 4S had the headphone jack on the top.
