Just thought I would let you all know how things turned out with my gifting that iBook to my sister. I had both good luck and bad luck in the end, with the very end result turning out to be not so good.

First, for the success part of the equation. Remember, I was told I needed to verify my identity with my iPhone 6 before I could gift the book. I tried just going in and confirming my payment information, but that didn't work, as I was still told I needed to verify my identity and put back in the iBooks menu when I would hit the buy now button. Finally, I went to the app store and pretended to purchase an iTunes gift card for my sister; and, because I have two-step verification enabled, there I did get the opportunity to have a verification code sent to one of my trusted devices. Then, once verified, I canceled out of purchasing the iTunes card, and went back to the iBooks store and was then able to gift her the book.

Second, for the not so successful part of this story. My brother gave our sister the iPad on which she was going to read the book in question. And, thinking I heard him say he was giving her the third generation iPad since he now has the iPad Air 2, I told him how to set the iPad back to factory defaults. But, unfortunately for my sister, he gave her his original iPad that can only run iOS 5.1. Thus, while he could read iBooks on the thing before he did the reset, now she's getting the message that she needs iOS 7 to download the iBooks app on to the iPad, but of course the iPad can't run iOS 7. I think my brother gave her that iPad, rather than a better one, because she has no internet or computer at home, which means she needs to use Wi-Fi at his house, or maybe public places, and then download things to read at home. But, sadly, she can't get any iBooks, or Kindle books, or much of anything else, for that matter. I feel really bad for her, kind of having something good put in front of her, and then snatched away, so to speak, and she really doesn't have any extra income to purchase something like that on her own. I would have gladly given her my iPhone 6 plus, but she couldn't have afforded the data plan. So, perhaps I'll see if I can find her another used iPad, but one a little more up to date.
