Mary, if the book is marked up correctly, you can go to the bookmarks page and navigate among the levels. You might find, say, parts at level 1, chapters at level 2, and maybe recipes at level 3.

For instance, if I have a cookbook from book share, who's table of contents thoughtfully lists out all of the recipes and each chapter, I cannot double tap on a given recipe and be taken to that chapter. This works in iBooks and Kindle, with the same book and it's interactive content. At least, with the one book I tried, it did.
