I attended a session on this app last week at CSUN. It does what you described. There were audible tones and bleeps to let you know that you had the camera lined up appropriately. At first the presenters did not tell the audience of these tones, which prompted many questions from the audience on how a blind person was supposed to aim the camera and know where the sign was. My impression of the company was, don't mean to be harsh, but perhaps they need to do more market research of their target population. Not arguing with the price of the app, but if they could improve a blind person's experience with aiming toward a sign, perhaps give more feedback and such, then that would help. I saw other devices and services at CSUN that offered much more than this app. Also, another attendee at the session said the app's recognition was almost as good as the KNFB Reader. This could mean pretty good, but the demosntration that I saw during the session and the demo that was given in the Blind Bargains podcast, the signs it read sounded like gibberish. The signs also might have had graphics and weird fonts which might have messed up the recognition.
