Hi Mary.

Yes, I received my Amazon Echo a few days ago. The Echo app for the most part
is accessible. The only issue I'm seeing is that it's a little funky about
updating the screen. It's one of those deals where you might tap on settings
for example, but those options don't show up right away and you sometimes have
to poke around the screen to find them. Having said that however, I was able to
get the Echo up and running with no sighted ehlp.

Basically, you find a good spot for the Echo, plug it in, turn it on, and wait
a minute or so where the echo will announce it's ready to be setup. You run the
app, and follow the directions. Not bad at all.

My impressions so far:

The voice is very pleasant. Not sure if it might be a high quality version of
Heather. The actual sound of the device is a lot better than I thought it would
be. It's somewhat bass heavy but not bad considering it's size. I wouldn't want
to use it for critical music listening by any means, but it's just fine for
what it is and having music playing in the background or listening to podcasts.

The build quality is outstanding, very nice looking device. It comes with a
very nice remote. Along with the remote, you get a magnetic platform for the
remote that you can stick to any metallic surface and the remote in turn sticks
very securely to this little platform. You can also mount the platform for the
remote with the included strip of double sided tape. The remote does have a
mic on it with a talk button which can be used if you are too far away from the
Echo or just don't feel like having to say Alexa.

What's very unique about the Echo is that it really can understand you from
very far away which is pretty cool.

The one big complaint I would have about the Echo is that it's still very young
and has a lot of learning to do. It's very limited when compared to Siri or Ok
Google but this is something that I'm sure will get better and better as it is
updated by Amazon. The updates just happen in the background I believe.

It's a cool device to play with for $99 if you are a Prime member but I don't
think I would ever pay the suggested retail price of $199.

Best regards,

Rick Alfaro

Subject: Amazon echo iOS app

I am curious if anyone on the list has the Amazon echo, which has a companion
app that runs on your iPhone. How is the app in terms of excess ability?
Mary
