Not sure if it would help, but some time ago I switched the layout in Fantastical so that there is a month calendar in the top half of the window, and the list of appointments on a given day in the bottom half. Since I've done this, I haven't had the issue of the app going back to the current day's appointments if I have moved on. I think you do a 3 finger swipe up or down, can't recall which. I have looked at the native calendar a few times since the iOS 8 update and do like it. I like that Apple added custom recurring appointments, and the over all look and feel.
