What Alex meant by “new app” is after you install an app for the first time. No, the app came out last September so in that respect it is not new, but it sounds like you just bought it now so you should try to remove all apps from the app switcher, then turn off your phone, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on. Did the app ask you to give it access to the camera? You can check this in Settings, Privacy and make sure the app is allowed to use the camera.
