Comparing KNFB Reader or any ocr app on the phone and a dedicated OCR software with a dedicated scanner on the pc is like comparing either is better to walk some miles to go to the nearest store or take a bus there.
For me, there are some limitations for both phone apps and pc software. If you want the portability of a phone, with rather some 80% chance of a raather accurate result, then KNFB reader is your choice of OCR apps on the phone. But, if you have lots of time, and don't mind turning your computer, and spend some time on scanning and outputting the document, then of course, a dedicate OCR software that usually cost around $900 with a decent scanner that cost around $300 will be the way to go. Put everything about the software, hardware, and the technology aside, I very much believe that how well the OCR works on the phone is very much depending on how good your image quality may be. For example, i was playing on my friend's KNFB Reader on a 5 the other day. Both of us took the same picture of the same catalog. One of our pictures showed as no text, and another reads it all from the top to the bottom. And it was an A4 page with same lighting, on the same table, etc. The only different is that, he took the picture rather close to the catalog, with over expose, while mine was about 1 feet away from the catalog.
