When I bought mine, I kept an eye out for ones using a Fresco Logic based implementation. I don't remember where I learned this from, but I was told that those are some of the best compatibility-wise. Mine has had no problems in Linux or Windows. I have one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FPIMJEW. I pass through the whole controller, and it runs my HTC Vive just fine; as well as the printer I have plugged into it.
